A cross-curricular STEM kit for 30 children to design, build, and test vibrating brush monsters.
Overview
Children will apply knowledge of simple series circuits, forces and mechanical systems to make a working model of a brush monster with a switched motor circuit.
With this kit, teachers can enhance learning by engaging children in a fun, hands-on activity that integrates Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM).
Children will learn how electric circuits work, and make a simple switched circuit. They will find out about the forces acting on a brush monster which make it vibrate and move along, including offset weights causing vibrations, and the ratchet effect which causes movement in one direction but not the other.
Children will apply what they have learnt to design, build, and test vibrating brush monsters. he brushes are then decorated and raced, offering a fun and competitive end to the session.
This STEM kit helps children understand and use electrical and mechanical systems in their projects.
The kit includes a lesson plan, PowerPoint and pupil worksheets, offering comprehensive support for teachers.
