Sequencing activities give children a clear way to explore order, pattern and recognition. They add wooden strips to holders while working with shape and colour. The geometry and shape resource includes twelve FSC® Certified wooden strips with ninety-two shape pieces in four colours and six shapes.
For Key Stage 1 Mathematics, children can recognise and name common 2-D and 3-D shapes. Use the shape matching activity to prompt naming, then ask children to identify the forms used in each sequence. This links visual recognition with mathematical language while keeping attention on shape properties.
For Key Stage 1 Art and Design, children can develop techniques using colour, pattern, texture, line, shape, form and space. Arrange the pieces by visual qualities, then discuss how repeated colour and shape choices alter a pattern.
