Reading Comprehension Boxes

Help children develop a better understanding of what they’re reading through 12 different comprehension strategies.

Each comprehension box contains a mix of texts, simple to complex, with related multiple choice questions. Accessible for all levels of pupil and can be used flexibly in the classroom.

Ideal for independent reading activities, where pupils can choose cards, organise themselves and self-mark (using the separate answer cards) at their own pace. Also perfectly suited for use in groups of similar ability in which pupils can discuss and summarise what they have learned with each other. Teacher preparation time is reduced through: 150 carefully chosen, colour-coded cards, with text on one side and questions on the other; A teacher’s guide offering ideas on how to teach comprehension strategies; Scope-and-Sequence chart plotting what strategies are addressed on each card; Progression guides to help evaluate where pupils should start; Assessments to help monitor progress. Used consistently, pupils will read broadly across fiction and non-fiction texts, extend their vocabulary by developing the meaning of words in context, develop reading stamina and practise answering questions which cover the full range of comprehension strategies.
